- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 8 slices American or cheddar cheese
- 8 slices sourdough or Texas toast bread
- 4 tbsp butter
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no pink remains. Drain excess fat.
- Add diced onions to the skillet and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper; simmer for 5 minutes.
- Butter one side of each slice of bread. In a separate skillet over medium-low heat, place one slice butter-side down.
- Layer with two slices of cheese followed by the Sloppy Joe mixture. Top with another slice of cheese and cover with another slice of bread (butter-side up).
- Cook until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes each side.
