Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 large sweet onion, diced
  • 2 medium carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 3 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat; sauté onions and carrots until softened.
  3. Add ground meat and minced garlic; cook until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Stir in tomato paste and beef broth; simmer until thickened. Mix in peas before removing from heat.
  5. Boil potatoes until fork-tender; drain and mash with butter and cream until smooth.
  6. In a baking dish, layer the meat mixture first, then top with mashed potatoes, spreading evenly.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until the top is golden brown.
