  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 6 cups stale French bread, cubed (about 1-inch pieces)
  • 8 oz deli ham, thickly sliced
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread cubed French bread evenly in the baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, mustard powder, and thyme. Pour half over the bread.
  4. Layer half of the ham over the bread and pour half of the egg mixture again. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.
  5. Bake for about 45 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
