Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3-5 minutes).
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture while alternating with milk until combined.
  5. In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder with a splash of milk to form a paste.
  6. Pour half of the vanilla batter into the prepared pan, dollop chocolate mixture on top, then cover with remaining vanilla batter. Swirl gently with a knife for the marble effect.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
