Ingredients

  • 1 lb sirloin steak
  • 2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 medium sweet onion, sliced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until translucent (about 5 minutes). Stir in garlic powder.
  3. Season steak with salt and pepper. Sear in the same skillet for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove from heat and let rest before slicing into bite-sized pieces.
  4. In a baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom. Add sautéed onions and steak pieces, seasoning each layer with salt and pepper.
  5. In a saucepan over low heat, combine heavy cream and shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Pour over layered ingredients.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes until potatoes are tender. Remove foil in the last 10 minutes to achieve a golden top.
