  • 1 (8 oz) package full-fat cream cheese
  • 1 cup whole sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp gel red food coloring
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix red velvet cake mix, eggs, oil, and water until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, beat cream cheese until creamy; add powdered sugar, sour cream, and vanilla extract until fluffy.
  4. If desired, fold in chocolate chips into the cream cheese mixture.
  5. Pour half of the red velvet batter into the pan, spread the cream cheese filling over it, then top with remaining batter.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean; cool completely before slicing.
