Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Roll out chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick on a floured surface. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters and place them on lined baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Let cool completely before decorating.
