  • 8 oz penne pasta
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 28 oz canned San Marzano tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp Italian herbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic; sauté until translucent.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned; drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in canned tomatoes, salt, pepper, and Italian herbs. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Cook penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente; drain.
  6. In a baking dish, layer half of the pasta, half of the meat sauce, and half of the cheese. Repeat layers finishing with cheese on top.
  7. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
